Scenario: you have your opponent in your guard. The choke is your basic collar choke.
- keep your guard closed, with your left hand open up his collar and feed your right hand as deep into is collar as you can, straighten your wrist to add pressure to his neck.
- with your left hand push his right arm away to be able to slide your left leg up, use your left leg to block his right arm from wanting to defend. Your left leg can move with his arm
- with your left hand work it under your right arm and reach into his collar
- from this point if you want you can go back to guard and finish the choke
Alternative: instead of going under your right arm you can go over your opponents head and grab the gi material over his shoulder and like a bow pull with your right hand for the choke.
Another alternative: is to throw your left leg over his head and apply pressure downward with your leg and pull on his gi for the submission

Scenario: if you have a wrestler type opponent and you are in a turtle position, he is going to want to chop your arm down to break you down. He also has his right arm around your waist.
- if your opponent is on your left side and grabs your left arm, pull it into your body and place it over the right hand on the mat
- post on your left hand and right foot and shoot your left leg out
- trap his right arm (which is holding your waist) with your right arm, when you shoot your left leg out your weight will be on his shoulder
- slide your right hand to the inside of his right leg to help you get up and take his back

2 versions of the Heavy guard pass
Scenario: your opponent has you in his guard and has a hand in your collar (right side)
- right hand tight to your opponents left armpit to prevent him from choking you and you right arm tight around his left leg
- work your left arm under his right leg and work it over your shoulder (find a space to squeeze your hand thru), don’t worry about the triangle
- with your left hand grab his collar on the left side, stack him, reach around with your right hand and grab the gi material around his butt
- swing his legs over and onto side control
Scenario: your opponent has you in his guard and you are trying to control his hands.
- with your left hand grab his right wrist and pin it to the mat, put your left side of your face to his belly and get on your feet
- walk towards the trapped hand until you can reach it with your right hand, hold onto his wrist
- get back down on your knees and work your hand under his leg and swing it over your shoulder to pass
- once in side control release the trapped handÂ
Scenario: your opponent is passing your guard with your hand trapped under you
- plant your feet on his hips and push backwards, use your shoulder blades to “crawl” back
