That is a grip that right next to the Gable Grip, I think is a crucial controling grip in grappling. Ask Marc about how to use it for a near unstoppable armbar if you haven't already

On the part where you say "roll back to your butt" for the armbar. Just a slight little change I would make would be to sit straight down on your butt. Rolling backwards can create just a little bit of space between your hips and the elbow and leave the right amount of room to escape the attack all together.

By sitting straight down you are keeping your hips almost right next to his shoulder and it makes the move much tighter and more efficient than rolling backwards.

Solid series though and I do love the torreano pass. ^_^

I think the best way to look at this is to have you mind as open as a little kid's mind is. In teaching the kids classes I've noticed why they are going to be so much better than we ever will be and that's because they don't have anything to loose and they know it. I've found that after watching a 6 year double leg bigger and stronger kids than him and replace his guard on them everytime, I have to tell myself "Man, that kid has NO fear and NO restrictions." and I think that is something that we tend to forget as adults.

I've battled with that fear of failure a lot and it's actually been just as productive for me as counter productive because sometimes that fear puts me thru the pressure that is needed for me to really learn and advance myself. Other times I give up before I even tried.

As far as the mats go, I would say get a good partner and flow roll for like 30 minutes one day either at an open mat or whenever you can (I can be free when you are...hint hint) and just roll without pressure of finishing or loosing. Take notes of good escapes and just keep moving no matter what happens. After all it's what the kids do
