Choke (modified ezekiel)
Starting from side control, pull your opponents gi out, feed the end of his gi to your hand that is under his head. When you pass the gi be sure that it goes over his hand that is protecting his neck. If he wants to pull his hand out let him that way you can slide your hand in and choke him.
Knee on belly to a knee on face:
from position 1, we control the head with the left hand and your right hand is on his left side.
pop-up with knee on belly, your left foot should be adjacent to his head and straight so that he can’t grab it.
if he defends the knee on belly he is going to use his hands and push away
when he does slide your right leg back and put your knee/shin to his neck
left hand should be by his head on the mat and right hand should be on the mat by his left side
From there we can go to the north south position into a submission
take your left hand and put it under his head
take your right hand and put it under his right arm
grab your fingers, so that it is like a loose noose
being on your toes walk up to him drive your shoulders into his gut
place your left shin to his neck and squeeze your arms together

This is Royler’s choke (I can’t remember why)
- starting from your butterfly guard
- put your right hand in your opponents collar
- scootch out a bit
- reach over your opponent, placing his head under the left side of your armpit, grab his belt
- pull his collar with your right hand and you squeeze your left elbow to the ground for the choke
2nd choke:
- you and your opponent is in a north south turtle position
- reaching under your opponents head place your right hand in your opponents collar
- with your left hand thread it under his right arm, begin to roll to the left (always roll on the side the arm is shooting thru)
- when you are rolling over shoot your hand behind his neck (palm facing up)
- when completely rolled your left hand should be facing the mat, pull with your right hand for the choke

the setup is the same for all 3 chokes from the guard. Starting from the closed guard.
1st choke:
- open your guard, get on your elbow and scootch out a bit
- left hand goes into the collar, turn your elbow clockwise past his shoulder
- with your right hand try to grab your left elbow, pull your wrist down for the choke
2nd choke
- left hand goes behind your opponents collar with your thumb inside
- place your right hand in his collar under your left hand (like you are holding a bat)
- push his upper body to the left and get his head to go thru your arms, your left forearm should be on the left side of his face to finish the choke
3rd choke:
- keeping him in your guard, your left hand is in his collar
- with your right hand take his gi out and take the slack out
- use your legs to get on your hips right to left
- once you move to your left take your right hand holding the gi and put it on the right side of his face and choke him

This is a continuation from the last private.
Once you have escaped your opponents half guard and you begin to transition to his back:
- swing your left leg over and place your heel to his gut, your right knee should be behind his shoulder to prevent him from turning into you
- take your left hand (which is under his arm) and feed his lapel to your right hand which is around his neck, reach as far back in his collar
- keep your left hand in there, do not pull it out
- you can do 2 things 1) you can wrap your hand behind his head (top of your hand on his head) and choke him. 2) you can grab your gi preferrably by your bicep and pull your right hand down for the choke
This is a quick transition, this must happen quickly.
If your opponent starts to turtle:
- stay on his back and proceed to set your grips in his collar
- you can set your hooks in and finish with a basic collar choke OR
- you can point and slide your right knee between his legs, take your left foot and sweep his right foot over your left leg
- push your right leg thru and hook his leg, pull your opponent over you and throw your left leg over and set your 2nd hook.
- finish with the choke

Scenario: you are on the bottom and have your opponent in your half guard and he also using the chicken wing
- with your right hand pull the end of his gi on the far side and feed it between his legs to your left hand. *Note if you are having problems reaching it scootch further down closer to his leg and be sure to be reaching around his leg and not over his back.
- once you have a good grip on his gi, post up on your left elbow and push against him, switch your legs (left leg over his leg)
- if he’s pushing into you, throw your hand under his left leg and sweep him.
- if he doesn’t push you can push just roll him over
If you are having a difficult time trying to achieve the sweep explained above an alternate may be to go for this choke.
- your opponent has you in a chicken wing, turn your trapped hand inside so that it is now between your bodies.
- with your right hand open up his collar and reach deep with your left hand
- with your right hand reach around his head and pull down at the same time turn your left hand in and lift your left elbow up
This may not finish your opponent but it opens up a sweep for you.
