You have your opponent in your half guard, your right hand goes on your opponents belt, your left hand must have an underhook and grab the material around his knee, lock it down tight, slide your right and left leg down behind his ankle, unlock your feet, swim your left foot under his right foot, raise his right foot using your left foot, pull your right foot out, push his knee with your left hand and proceed to side control.

Escape from half guard
Scenario: you are in your opponents half guard and you are wanting to escape
- you must fight for that under hook
- you can place your left arm either under his head or on the side of his head (left ear) and your right arm under his left arm and lock your hands together
- your opponent will try to lock you down, figure four your opponents leg and switch your hips (get on the left side of your hip)
- break your figure four and crawl your right foot up to his butt, as far as possible, his legs should be sliding down to your shins by this point
- with your right elbow push his leg over to free your leg or wait for him to open up his guard
- when he opens up his guard straighten your right leg and throw it as far back behind you, he will try to bridge into you, this will stop the momentum from you being swept
- when you goes back flat on his back get to side control

Scenario: you have your opponent in your half guard
- fight for the underhook
- move your hips slightly to the left
- once you have your underhook get up on your right elbow and work yourself up to your hand
- pull your right leg that is wrapped around his leg outward
- push towards him to break him down and proceed to side control or the worse thing is that you have to fight out of his half guard

Escape side control to half butterfly sweep to armbar: you are in your opponents side control: 1) bump and shrimp to your side and slide your left hand and place it on his right torso. 2) your left foot is perpendicular to the mat, shoot your right foot under it and you will finish in a belly down north south position, get to your knees. 3) your opponent may continue to push forward (wrestlers do this), roll back and over your right foot and hook it between his legs. 4) you should have both of your arms under his armpits, continue to roll and sweep him. Try to finish in side control and not in his half guard. 5) grab behind your opponents right elbow and lift up and over and then place your hand on his chest or on your right shoulder. 6) pop up and lay your right leg flat behind his back and your left foot should be on the left side of his face. 7) hook your opponents right arm with your left arm and grab your shoulder, with your right arm hug his trapped arm and place it on your belt.
when you sit back raise your right knee up but keep your right foot behind his shoulder, squeeze your knees together to finish the armbar.
An alternative to going to a half butterfly would be to do a single leg and finish off in side control. Remember to keep your head in the inside not on the outside of his body.

Half guard escape: you are in your opponents half guard 1) with the trapped leg, walk your right foot upwards. 2) try and slide as much of your leg out. Use your right hand and push on his left knee. 3) put your right knee down on the mat on the left side of him. 4) with your left foot dorsi flex on his right leg and pull your right foot out.
Kimura from the north south position: starting from the north south position 1) your arms under his arms by his sides. 2) turn him onto his right side 3) push your left arm under his left arm and grab your gi and lock his arm down. 4) put a kimura grip on it. 5) place your right foot on the side of his face. 6) your left knee should be pressed on his back. 7) with the arm locked to your chest, pull up.
torque your body to the left for the submission.
Kimura defense transition to a choke: this position is a continuation from the north south position, once you’ve established control. Your opponent has his hands locked together and you can’t break it. 1) with your right hand grab his belt and feed it to your left hand. 2) grip the belt like you are holding on to bull (grip facing up). 3) wrist curl up to add a little discomfort and really lock it down. 4) sink your right hand into his collar. 5) flatten yourself out perpendicular to his body and apply the choke. I found it easier to sink my hand in his collar if I continued to sit on his head.
