Spider guard to a sweep
starting from guard you control your opponents sleeves, you open your guard and place them on his hips, wrap your left leg around his right arm, he stands up and pulls away, he passes your right leg, hook your right foot on his leg right leg and turn into him and grab his pant sleeve, push your left leg forward for the sweep and keep hold of his pant sleeve until you establish side control
Koala guard and takedown
basically you are holding his leg, use your collar to keep it tight, if you are attacking his right leg you have your left arm around his leg and holding onto your collar, place your left shin in front of his shin, your right leg is in between his leg. Keep his knee in the middle of your body, roll backward and extend your left leg, roll either way for the takedown. If he basis out roll to the opposite side to bring his leg closer to you for you to grab.
Stripping his grip from your pant leg
2 techniques
1st: Your opponent grabs the gi material around your knees and puts your feet to the mat, you immediately go up with them, lock your hands behind your opponents wrist pull towards you and at the same time straighten your leg, this will strip his grip from one of your knees
2nd: you are on your back and your opponent has a grip on your gi around your knees. Wrap your left leg around his arm and place your right foot on his bicep and push away stripping one of his grip

Spider guard to a bicep cutter
Starting from your guard
- grab both ends of your opponents sleeve
- place both of your feet on his hips, push out take your left foot and place it on his bicep and then take your right foot and place it on the other bicep
- take your left leg and go over his right arm, keep hold of his left sleeve, pull him onto you. His weight should be supported by your knees
- grab his gi on the outside of his left knee, roll him over and apply pressure using your hips for the cutter
Defending the spider guard
Scenario: your opponent has you in his spider guard
- step over his arms and sit down on them to break his grip, proceed to side control
To defend them from stepping over your arms and legs:
- once he steps over your legs grab his belt with one hand
- hook your feet in the inside of his legs
- grab his belt with both hands and pull him back and the same time straighten out your legs so he falls with your chest to his back

Spider guard: you start off grabbing your opponents sleeve and placing your feet on his hips or up into his armpit/chest area to control him.
Arm trap from a spider guard: you are controlling your opponents buy holding onto his sleeve, wrap your left leg over his right arm, place your right knee to his midsection and roll forward onto him, his arm will be trapped under your knee, push forward with your hips for the submission.
Another variation is if your opponent defends your knee from going to his midsection, let him do it, this way you can figure four his trapped arm, when he leans forward for side control wrap your arms under his left arm and head and squeeze.
